FEMALE PATIENT, 21 YEARS OLD
She was dissatisfied with the yellow color of her teeth.
Initial evaluation
During the anamnesis, the patient expressed dissatisfaction with the color of her teeth and a desire to undergo tooth whitening. When performing clinical examination using the color guide, color A2 was observed in the middle third of the upper central incisors. In-office whitening was proposed to meet the patient’s needs and minimize dental sensitivity, using the Whiteness HP AutoMixx 35% PLUS gel.
This gelstands out for its unique feature: it maintains a stable and alkaline pH throughout the whitening process. This unique feature contributes to patients feeling less sensitivity after the procedure than whitening gels with more acidic pH.
Treatment performed
Previous prophylaxis and supragingival scraping were performed to start the proposed treatment, followed by recording the initial colors through a photographic protocol and visual guide. The installation of the Arcflex lip retractor was then performed, and according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, gingival tissue was protected using the Top Dam Blue gingival barrier. Whiteness HP AutoMixx 35% PLUS whitening gel was applied, ensuring the correct self-blending of the gel before application, dispensing a small initial amount.
The gel remained in contact with the dental surface for 50 minutes without needing replacement, thanks to the excellent rheological properties and the stable alkaline pH during application. After 50 minutes, the whitening gel was removed by aspiration, washing with plenty of water, and removing the gingival barrier and lip retractor.
Two 50-minute sessions were held with an interval of seven days between them. One month after the end of treatment, the final color was recorded to verify the whitening efficacy.
The whitening approach using an alkaline and stable pH gel is promising, offering low risk and intensity of dental sensitivity with an excellent color change. The result obtained met the patient’s expectations.
