Although the amount of BPA released in saliva by resinous materials is thousands of times lower than the minimum safest dose, there is a trend to eliminate BPA from restorative dental products.

Step by step

Step 1 of 6

Isolate the operative field. Isolation must ensure a moisture-free field with good visualization of the location. If necessary, use absolute isolation.

Step 2 of 6

Carry out the cavity preparation according to the adhesive technique.

Step 3 of 6

Carry out the acid etching (enamel and dentin). Afterwards, wash with plenty of water, removing all the acid from the surface, and dry the enamel gently, leaving the dentin moist.

Apply the adhesive according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Insertion of the composite and light-curing*: in case there is darkening exacerbated by the formation of tertiary dentin, staining by amalgam or other stains without a defined origin, is necessary to apply an opacifying composite, in order to mask the darkening of the substrate. For the insertion of the restorative composite, the incremental technique is recommended, as it allows for better performance of the material. Apply the material directly into the cavity with the applicator tip. Each layer should be up to 1.5 mm thick. Light cure for 20 seconds**. *The composite will only mimic the tooth color if there are surrounding walls and after curing. During insertion, the composite appears more opaque, which will only resemble the tooth color after light curing.
