4 advantages of APS technology developed by FGM Dental Group

Esthetics has always been a concern for patients, dentists and the industry. With the development of APS (Advanced Polymerization System) technology by FGM, a new scenario has been created when it comes to composite resin, as well as other dental materials, such as adhesive systems and light-curing cements.

What is APS technology?

APS technology, an exclusive development by FGM, consists of a combination of different photo initiators that interact with each other and amplify the curing capacity provided by the light from the photocuring devices. One of these photo initiators is still camphorquinone (in very low concentration), used only to start a chain reaction with the multiplication of free radicals as the sequential propagation occurs.

Thus, camphorquinone was added only as a “trigger”, since it is sensitized by the wavelength of light emitted by all light curing devices available on the market, the professional can enjoy all the benefits of APS even using his conventional light curing device, without the need to invest in specific equipment.

Esthetics

Due to the colorless aspect of most of the photo initiators of the APS system, it was possible to formulate more esthetic polymeric materials. Especially in Vittra APS and Allcem Veneer APS there is no significant shade change when compared before and after light curing, which facilitates the choice of shade and, consequently, a superior esthetic result. In the case of Ambar APS and Ambar Universal APS adhesives, the colorless aspect favors their use when associated with the cementation of veneers. In Opus Bulk Fill APS, however, the opacity is greater after light curing, leaving the final restoration more natural.

Mechanical properties

As the curing depth is increased due to the higher degree of conversion of the monomers into polymers, consequently, there is a better curing of the entire chain. This generates a significant increase in all mechanical properties, such as flexural strength and breaking toughness.

Curing properties

One of the important qualities of APS is that it provides a better conversion of monomers into polymers, even at great depths. This property is of utmost importance for all photoactivated resins, but especially in the case of bulk fill resins, Opus Bulk Fill APS and Opus Bulk Fill Flow APS, which are indicated for insertion in large increments, guaranteeing clinical longevity of the restorations.

Longer working hours

Materials containing the APS system are four times less sensitive to ambient light when compared to traditional composites. The possibility of calmly performing esthetic restorations with Vittra APS resin, as well as enough time to insert and sculpt a restoration with Opus Bulk Fill APS in one go, as well as simultaneous positioning and cementation of veneers with Allcem Veneer APS, are now a reality. And all this with the reflector light on!

FGM has different solutions for your needs. If you want working time and high esthetics, count on Vittra APS. For restorations in large increments using the bulk fill technique, use Opus Bulk Fill APS, also presented in the Opus Bulk Fill Flow APS version with antigravity technology. Be amazed also by Vittra APS Unique, which comes with a single composite for all shades.
